Retro Re-pin Party #30 with a Mardi Gras Recipe and Facebook Tips

Welcome back to the Retro Re-pin Party!

Happy Mardi Gras!

Did you know that today is Fat Tuesday? It’s also pancake day (I love pancakes!) During the Lenten season (aka “Lent”), which is the period of approximately 6 weeks/40 days days between Ash Wednesday and Easter Sunday, it’s common for Christians and Catholics to fast from richer foods, meat, or another type of luxury to prepare their hearts and draw nearer to God. (You’ll see fish sandwiches pop up everywhere this week because Fridays are often meat-free days for Roman Catholics.) The fast ends on Easter Sunday, which celebrates the resurrection of Christ. Fat Tuesday is so named because many of the luxury items that are to be given up will be consumed today. Butter, eggs, and cream have historically been luxury items (and the perfect ingredients for pancakes), so that’s how Fat Tuesday came to be known as Pancake day!  I’m definitely making my favorite pancakes today!

Here’s what I’ve been up to since the last party:

These look yummy and I'm so excited they're gluten-free! Salvadorean Pupusas are pillowy bean and cheese-stuffed corn tortillas.

  On to the party!

I’m hoping to do a round up of pancake recipes next week, so share your favorites below if you have them! Remember to pin your posts first and then link up that PINTEREST PIN to the party below so we can show it some extra re-pin love! (Pinterest ranks re-pins higher than pins.)

My favorite posts from the last party are:

This King Cake Bread Pudding from Paris at My Big Fat Happy Life

If you’ve never had a king cake before, you are in for a huge treat! Think about the most decadent cinnamon roll you’ve ever had. Now imagine if that was baked in the shape of a ring so that every bite was like the gooey center piece you save for last. That’s a king cake. This recipe takes the flavors of king cake one step further and turns it into a bread pudding. I usually make a king cake from scratch, but I don’t have time to do that today, so I’m going to make this recipe instead when I get home from work. So excited! Be sure to show Paris some re-pin love.

My other feature is:

5 tips to keep your blog facebook alive - seven gracesThese 5 Tips to Keep Your Facebook Page Alive from Kristy at Seven Graces

I’ve been pretty much writing off my Facebook page for Sustaining the Powers as something to have so people can tag my blog, but nothing useful because Facebook makes you pay to reach more than a tiny fraction of your followers. After reading through Kristy’s tips, I might just start focusing on it more! If you have a blog, you definitely don’t want to miss re-pinning this post!

Here’s a Feature Button for you two!
