Description

Scratch-made black bean burgers with the perfect burger texture.


Ingredients

Scale
  • 1/2 onion, diced (or instant onions)
  • 2 15oz cans black beans, rinsed and well drained
  • 1 6.5oz can mushrooms
  • 1/4 cup flour
  • 1/4 cup oats (or breadcrumbs or crumbled bread used)
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp onion powder
  • 1/2 tsp seasoned salt
  • 1/2 tsp powdered ranch dressing mix
  • salt and pepper to taste

Additional

  • oil for frying
  • Burger buns and toppings

Instructions

  1. Sautee the onions till soft, about 3-5 minutes.
  2. In a medium bowl, mash the black beans with a potato masher or fork until mostly smooth. (You want some bean chunks to add texture.
  3. Add sauteed onions and the rest of the ingredients to the black beans, adding the flour a few tablespoons at a time to combine well. Mixture will be thick.
  4. Form bean mixture into 6 patties, approximately ½ inch thick.
  5. Fry patties in a small amount of oil until slightly firm, about 3 minutes per side.

Notes

  • Makes 6 patties
  • Gluten-free: Use gf flour and certified gf oats
  • Vegetarian: These are vegetarian
  • Vegan: Leave out the powdered ranch mix.
