Merry Christmas Y’all From Sustaining the Powers!

I hope you are each enjoying a relaxing holiday week with your family! I’m enjoying being back in Austin with all my family this year. The land of Whataburger, 70 degree December days, and BBQ brisket is always my favorite. (I can’t even explain to any of you non-Texans the importance of Whataburger, but you Texans know what I’m talking about. Amarillo has the closest Whataburger to Denver, and you bet we stopped there on our road trip down here!)

Microwave Saltine Toffee - Sustaining the Powers-1

We’ve been enjoying cooking together and catching up. This is the first time in about 5 years that my sister and I have both been in the same house for Christmas, and it’s been great. We both live out of state now, so it’s been hard to coordinate us having the same holiday free to travel home. Splitting time with the families of significant others is also a tricky thing to navigate as a grown up. How do your families do this?

In case you’re looking to cook or bake over the next few days, here’s some of my favorite holiday recipes in case you missed them.

Our Snacks for wrapping gifts tonight:

Pumpkin Spice Kettle Corn

My favorite last minute parent or neighbor gifts:

A little something to drink to good health:

9 Holiday Drink Recipes from Around the World

9 Holiday Drink Recipes From Around The World: Glühwein, Uzvar Kompot, Sahlep, Cava, Cola de Mono, Sorrel Punch, Ponche Navideño, Wassail and Coquito. Most can be made with or without alcohol.

Add a bit of cheer to the holiday table:

Quick Cranberry Salsa and Goat Cheese Crostini

These Cranberry Salsa and Goat Cheese Crostini are the perfect quick appetizer for your next holiday party.

 How to Make Sugared Cranberries

Sugared Cranberries have a sugary crust on the outside, but pop open to reveal their tart insides when you bite them. They're easier to make than you think, and they're the perfect accent for all your holiday baking and cocktails.

And my favorite Christmas memory:
